Joseph was a scrappy, clever boxer who came to fight and always gave it his all; During his career, he won the EBU Welterweight Championship of Europe and the BBBC Welterweight Championship of Great Britain - and fought for the Welterweight Championship of the World
 
He defeated such men as Johnny Summers, Jack Goldswain, Arthur Evernden, Joe Heathcote, Robert "Curley" Watson, Jack Meekins, Young Otto, Edward "Darkey" Haley, Jack Roberts, Rudy Unholz, Robert Eustache, Alf Reed and Battling LaCroix
