Top Women
Worth Watching and Televising
By ADAM
POLLACK
If promoters and television producers put these women on their cards, they won't be
disappointed by the entertainment value they bring.
168 lbs to 175 lbs
Laila Ali (22-0, 19 KOs): A very entertaining, hard-punching fighter, and there are
great fights to be made with her. Will she take the Wolfe fight, or will another
potentially great women's match up go by the wayside (e.g., Rijker vs. Martin). Women's
boxing needs a big fight!
Ann Wolfe (24-1, 16 KOs): Strong and tough enough to give Ali a test. Question is
whether Ali really wants the match.
Leatitia Robinson (14-0, 9 KOs): Another top contender who has the stuff to give
Ali a real fight.
Up-and-comers
Ijeoma Egbunine (12-1, 8 KOs): Recent KO2 Valerie Mahfood and KO2 Asa Sandell.
Natascha Ragosina (11-0, 8 KOs): Good boxer with solid wins: Yyvone Reis (KO10),
Valerie Mahfood (W10), and Dakota Stone (W10).
140 lbs to 147 lbs
Mary Jo Sanders (21-0, 6 KOs): Talented and entertaining with an impressive resume,
including wins over Chevelle Hallback, Terri Blair, Layla McCarter, Melissa Del Valle,
Belinda Laracuente, Eliza Olson, and Tricia Turton.
Holly Holm (14-1-2, 5 KOs): This 5-foot-8-inch, 24-year-old southpaw has victories
over Christy Martin, Mia St. John, and Terri Blair. She's fast with good footwork,
excellent condition, and will be very tough to beat. Upcoming match with 28-8 Jane Couch.
Terri Blair (8-10-2, 5 KOs): Forget her record, she can really fight. This southpaw
is coming off two huge upset KO wins over Sumya Anani, long considered one of women's
boxing's best pound-for-pound fighters. She's tough and aggressive and willing to fight
anyone.
Up-and-comers
Myriam Lamare (13-0, 6 KOs): Entertaining Frenchwoman has victories over Eliza
Olson, Iva Weston, Jane Couch, and Belinda Laracuente. Scheduled match with Anne Sophie
Mathis (11-1 with 10 KOs), who is coming off a KO9 win over then 14-0 Nathalie Toro.
Molly McConnell (5-1, 2 KOs): Good amateur background, only loss is to Terri Blair,
whom she had previously beaten.
Jill Emery (7-0, 3 KOs): 5-foot-9-inch southpaw had a fantastic amateur background,
including multiple international tournament victories.
Natalie Brown (3-0, 3 KOs): Had a solid amateur background.
Tiffany Junot (1-0, 1 KO): Former top U.S. amateur has an entertaining style that
will work well in the pros.
130 lbs to 135 lbs
Chevelle Hallback (25-4-1, 11 KOs): The best at this weight range right now, she
has victories over Alicia Ashley, Layla McCarter, Britt Van Buskirk, Melissa Del Valle,
Emiko Raika, and Belinda Laracuente. With experience has polished her skill very nicely.
Emiko Raika (15-2-1, 6 KOs): Experienced and tough.
Jelena Mrdjenovich (18-1, 11 KOs): Canadian has a recent win over Mia St. John, but
needs to take on stiffer opposition.
Up-and-comer
Lissette Medel (2-0): Former amateur has the strength to do something.
122 lbs to 126 lbs
Missy Fiorentino (14-1, 6 KOs): Furious Fiorentino is one of the best
pound-for-pound women in the world right now and is among the most exciting to watch. Just
won a lightweight title, but her best weight is featherweight.
Jeanine Garside (5-0-1, 1 KO): Canadian southpaw can box and punch. In only her
fourth pro bout, she won a title against Lisa Brown, but the rematch resulted in a
majority draw.
Laura Serrano (16-2-2, 6 KOs): Experienced and excellent former champion southpaw
making a comeback, but she's 38.
Good upcoming match: Sharon Anyos (12-3, 3 KOs) vs. Esther Schouten (18-3-1, 9
KOs).
Up-and-comers
Rhonda Luna (11-0-1, 1 KO): Good fighter.
Cindy Serrano (13-0-1, 7 KOs): Another worthwhile fighter.
Ina Menzer (14-0, 7 KOs): Kazakh fighting out of Germany has upcoming match with
Leli Florez (8-2).
Jeri Sitzes (12-6-1, 5 KOs): Learned with experience and is now a fine fighter.
Melissa Hernandez (5-0-1, 2 KOs): Gritty, tough, entertaining style, and is willing
to fight anyone.
115 lbs to 118 lbs
Myung Ok Ryu (4-0, 3 KOs): North Korean has wins over Mariana Juarez and Alicia
Ashley, but hasn't fought since late 2005.
Zhang Xi Yan (2-0): In only her second pro bout, this former world amateur champion
Chinese southpaw defeated Alicia Ashley for a title. Has scheduled match against Stefania
Bianchini (15-2-1, 2 KOs).
Anita Christensen (18-0, 7 KOs): Danish fighter is tough and skilled but avoids
tough matches. Scheduled to fight Nadia Hockmi (6-3).
Bettina Csabi (28-0, 10 KOs): 28-year-old Hungarian is good but like Christensen,
likes to fight soft opposition.
Melinda Cooper (17-0, 9 KOs): 21-year-old Las Vegas fighter has an entertaining
style but needs to step up the competition. She deserves greater exposure.
Alejandra Oliveras (7-0-1, 3 KOs): Argentinean is coming off a KO8 over Jackie
Nava, who was 13-1-1 with 8 KOs and was coming off a unanimous decision victory over
Kelsey Jeffries.
Kwang Ok Kim (5-0, 1 KO): North Korean southpaw just won a split decision in North
Korea against 13-1-1 Ana Maria Torres.
Up-and-comers
Kaliesha West (4-0): This young pro had a good amateur career and has an
entertaining pro style.
Vanessa Juarez (3-0, 1 KO): This young former U.S. amateur champion is a quick
southpaw.
Stella Nijhof (1-0): Very experienced former U.S. amateur champion southpaw just
turned pro.
112 lbs and under
Regina Halmich (50-1-1, 15 KOs): German star has upcoming match against Ria
Ramnarine (10-4, 1 KO).
Wendy Rodriguez (17-2-3, 2 KOs): Tough little L.A. scrapper is coming off a
technical decision win over Carina Moreno.
Carina Moreno (9-1, 3 KOs): Former U.S. amateur champion from northern California
is coming off a victory over the experienced Stephanie Dobbs.
Julia Sahin (15-0, 2 KOs): German has scheduled match with Marilyn Hernandez (13-5,
7 KOs).
Up-and-comers

upcoming fight with Maribel Zurita (8-7-1).
Becky Garcia (5-0, 3 KOs): Had solid amateur experience.
Heather Donoho (3-0): Short but strong and had good amateur experience.
Chantel Cordova (4-0-1, 3 KOs): 19-year-old coming off a D4 against the tough 4-0
Valarie Rix.
