Griffiths was a scrapper who battled most of the top men of his time; He lost but 11 verdicts in 88 bouts and scored 42 knockouts; During his career, he was a top contender in the Heavyweight and Light-Heavyweight Divisions

He defeated such men as Mike McTigue, Harry Dillon, King Levinsky, Tom Heeney, Johnny Risko, Paulino Uzcudun, Leo Lomski, Charley Belaner, Otto Von Porat, Emmett Rocco, Jack Roper, Paul Pantaleo, Con O'Kelly, Jack Gannon, Clarence "Sandy" Seifert, Sully Montgomery, Clayton "Big Boy" Peterson, Ludwig Haymann and Tommy O'Brien

"Tuffy" was inducted into the
Greater Siouxland Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 1981
