Max Baer
(Maximillian Adalbert Baer)
(the "Livermore Larruper")

BORN   February 11 1909; Omaha, Nebraska
DIED November 21 1959; Hollywood, California
HEIGHT 6-2 1/2
WEIGHT 192-226 lbs
MANAGERS Ancil Hoffman
TRAINER Mike Cantwell

Baer was a big, strong man with a terrific wallop; He was not a polished boxer but with his punch, opponents had to be very careful and stay on the watch; His greatest weakness as a fighter was his lack of focus and his failure to stay in top fighting condition

Max fought from 1929 through 1941 and won the Heavyweight Championship during his career; And, yes, it was his son, Max Baer, Jr. who played Jethro in the television series, "Beverly Hillbillies"

Herb Goldman ranked Baer as the #14 All-Time Heavyweight; Max was inducted into the Ring Boxing Hall of Fame in 1968, the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1984 and the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1995
