Daly was a feisty, scrappy and durable competitor and one of the best lightweights of his time; He was called the "stiffest hitter I ever met" by Billy Frazier and was a leading contender for the lightweight championship held by Jack McAuliffe
 

During his career, he defeated such men as Billy Frazier, Walter Campbell and Marcellus Baker
