According to Nat Fleischer, Turner won 90 percent of his fights; He is described by Fleischer as a "great two-fisted fighter, as fearless as they come"; He often fought men twenty pounds heavier than himself; Charley was a brother of "Rufe" Turner, the fighter

During his career, Turner defeated such men as Wiley Evans, Paddy Gorman, Billy Hennessey, Martin "Buffalo" Costello, Dave Hatch, Jim Hall, Black Pearl (Harris Martin) and "Soldier" James Walker
