Paterson was a Scottish warrior who came to fight; He won 64 of 92 bouts, scored 41 knockouts and was a collector of titles; During his career, he captured the NBA Flyweight Championship of the World, the EBU Bantamweight Championship of Europe, the Bantamweight Championship of the British Empire (Commonwealth), the BBBC Bantamweight Championship of Great Britain, the EBU Flyweight Championship of Europe, the Flyweight Championship of the British Empire (Commonwealth), the BBBC Flyweight Championship of Great Britain and the Flyweight Championship of Scotland

Jackie defeated such men as Peter Kane, Rinty Monaghan, Richie "Kid" Tanner, Eric Jones, Theo Medina, John "Tut" Whalley, Norman Lewis, Al Phillips, Jimmy Stubbs, Ronnie Clayton, Johnny King and Danny O'Sullivan
