Jose "Pipino" Cuevas
(José Isidro Cuevas González)
("Mr. Knockout")

BORN   December 27 1957; Santo Tomas de Los Platanos, Mexico (near Mexico City)
HEIGHT 5-8
WEIGHT 135 - 155 1/2 lbs

Cuevas began his career with an up-and-down performance as he learned the ropes; Relying upon his "heavy, heavy" left hand, he worked his way up the ladder to the "Big Times" and reached the highlights of his career by winning the WBA Welterweight Championship of the World and the Welterweight Championship of Mexico

A very popular fighter, "Pipino" was a talented puncher who made a habit of winning by knockout; As champion, he successfully defended his title eleven times and scored ten knockouts; Veteran promoter-matchmaker Don Fraser once said, "Cuevas is the most dangerous puncher I've ever seen in the welterweight division"

During his career, he defeated such men as Miguel Angel Campanino, Clyde Gray, Angel Espada, Billy Backus, Harold Weston, Pete Ranzany, Mauricio Bravo, Scott Clark, Randy Shields, Harold Volbrecht, Joergen Hansen and Shoji Tsujimoto

Cuevas was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1996 and the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2002
