Roberto Cruz
Born: November 2, 1941 Baguio, The Philippines

Manager: Felipe de la Cruz
Available Record: 29-12-3 (14 kayos)

Cruz was brought in as a virtually unknown challenger
to serve as the fallguy for Mexican knockout artist
Battling Torres, in a bout for the Vacant WBA Jr. Welterweight
title. The bout was held underneath the title fight tripleheader,
which also included Luis Rodriguez-Emile Griffith, and the
tragic Sugar Ramos-Davey Moore fight. Cruz pulled off a big
upset when he stopped Torres in the first round. After that
he was matched with former champ Eddie Perkins for universal
recognition as champ (which the CBZ follows). Perkins easily
outboxed Cruz, regaining the title. Cruz returned to
obscurity after that fight, which may explain why his
record is still incomplete.
