Zarate was a puncher deluxe; He was a power hitter who waxed the best of 'em with his natural swings; During his career, he scored 63 knockouts in 70 bouts and won the WBC Bantamweight Championship of the World

Carlos defeated such men as Alfonso Zamora, Danilo Batista, Alberto Davila, Andres Hernandez, Paul Ferreri, Rodolfo Martinez, Nestor Carlos Jiminez, Benicio Segundo Sosa and Orlando Amores

Herb Goldman ranked Zarate as the #2 All-Time Bantamweight; Carlos was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1994 and the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1996
