"WAR ON THE PEACE RIVER X"
Pechette Promotions, SJC Professional Boxing, Inc., and Kix 92.9 Country,
declare "War on the Peace River X," on Tuesday, February 1, 2000. Fight
time will be 8:00 P.M., at the Charlotte County Memorial Auditorium, in
Punta Gorda, Florida.
This will be another fabulous show as Freeman "The Natural" Barr is coming
back after a one year layoff to fight Gerald "The Disciple" Coleman, of
Tampa, Florida, for the vacant 168 lbs. NABO title. This is a very
important fight for Barr (18-2 with 8 KO's), as a win over Coleman will
re-establish him as a world title contender and should propel him into
another major world title fight. His last fight was against Bert Schenk, in
Germany, for the WBO world title and ended in controversy, as "something"
got into Barr's eyes and blinded him. After seven months of recurring eye
infections he is ready to go. Freeman promises a great fight, and asks for
the support of his fans around the world and especially the local fans here
in Southwest Florida.
The undercard will feature former IBF cruiserweight world champion Uriah
Grant. Grant recently signed on with SJC Boxing and is making his Southwest
Florida debut against tough Sarasota fighter Tony Spain, in an eight round
bout. A win will put Grant back into the world title mix and he will
hopefully get his shot soon.
Crowd favorite SJC boxer Scott "The Sandman" Erickson is returning to
action after a three year layoff. His opponent is the dangerous and
exciting Deltonia Clary, of St. Petersburg. This six round bout could be
the fight of the night! Kevin Watts, a welterweight trained by women's
world champion Christy Martin, will be going against popular George
Kellman, of Antigua, in another four rounder. Daniel Judah (2-0), brother
of Zab Judah, will be in a four round super middleweight fight against
Keith Barrett, of Palm Bay, Fl. Also in action is David Lewter, a promising
Jr. middleweight, against undefeated Jerome Davis, of Tampa.
Our special guests for this event will be the former featherweight and Jr.
lightweight champion Juan LaPorte, former lightheavy champ, and hall of
fame member, Jose Torres, former heavyweight contender Buster Mathis Jr.,
former great amateur champion Formus White, and boxing's foremost ring
historian, Hank Kaplan. It is with great pleasure that we welcome our
guests to Southwest Florida, and they will be on hand for interviews,
photos, and autographs. Boxing headquarters for this show: the Litchfield
Inn, in Port Charlotte.
Tickets are $50.00 for Golden Circle, $25.00 for Limited Ringside and
$15.00 for General Admission, and are available at Badcock's Furniture,
3608 Fowler St, Ft. Myers, "The Island Grill," in Punta Gorda Isles, Sport
City Billiards, in Port Charlotte, and at the Memorial Auditorium box
