SHERIDAN GETTING DOMESTIC ATTENTION ON ESPN 2

Bob Sheridan, the winner of the 1998 Sam Taub Award for excellence in boxing broadcasting has  done more championship fights than any man in television history. And with ESPN 2 showing a lot  of the old Don King fights in their "Looking Back" segments, Sheridan is getting domestic airplay  seeing he is the King Vision voice.

Colonel Bob is seen and heard primarily on King's international broadcasts. He broke in with King  when DK put forth Ali vs. Foreman in 1974, and has televised every one of King's cards since.

PAID BUFFOON

When ESPN 2's Max Kellerman said that the future of the heavyweight division will be the winner  of the Ike Ibeabuchi-Chris Byrd fight in March, and NOT Michael Grant, I almost fell off my chair.

A statement that lame is quite typical of Misguided Max. I have stayed away from commenting on  him because I thought that I would give him some time and not sound like the guy who should have  had the gig, and was crying about it.

PERNELL BETTER THAN DURAN OR MOSLEY!

That's what he believes! That Pernell Whitaker would be able to beat Roberto Duran in his prime,  and the 1999 version of "Sugar" Shane Mosley.

RANKS LOSER OVER WINNER

And yes, the clown prince of televised boxing rated Keith Mullings higher than Javier Castelayo,  and this was after Javier had beaten the Desert Storm veteran Friday night.

SPANIARD BESTS “ORDINARY” MULLINGS

When ESPN 2 picked their coverage up of the WBC 154 lb. title fight between American Keith    Mullings and Spain's Javier Castelayo in the sixth round, they just happened to catch promoter Bob  Arum in his front row seat. And his "sick" look said it all.

MAN WHO DRILLED TERRY NORRIS

Mullings was the man who beat the bees wax out of longtime WBC ruler Terry Norris, a fight that  Norris himself asked for after seeing Keith get shafted against then IBF guy Raul Marquez.

JAVIER JUST LIKE MULLINGS

This was a battle of two guys who would both be quite fortunate to see the sixth round with the real  world champ at junior middleweight, Fernando Vargas.

SCORES GIVE JAVIER MAJORITY WIN

116-112, 115-114, & 114-114

KEITH WANTED BY OSCAR

Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya wanted to fight Mullings this year. And Arum was hoping that    Mullings, in his second defense of the WBC diadem, would be successful in this mandatory match,  so that he could keep that WBC belt around his waist until Oscar had the time.

GRANT GETTING NEEDED WORK

What you saw on Saturday night was the future king of the ring Michael Grant carrying Ahmad  Abdin for a while, before he ended things in the 10th. The 29-0, heir apparent toyed with Abdin  with his left jab, all the while resting a right hand that he hurt in the third round. He did this until  trainer Don Turner told him to end things.

GOLOTA "UNSTABLE" TO SAY THE LEAST

That's not just the assessment of Dr. Fernandez. HBO's Chief Boxing Physician Larry Merchant  told me that even though co-hort Jim Lampley said on air that Golota, upon learning that Jimmy  Thunder had gotten hurt and been replaced by 41 year old LOSER Jesse Ferguson, that he locked  himself in his room for an hour. Asi t turns out, this wasn't exactly true.

"He was in that room for hours. Hours. Main Events told us that at one point that there was a 90%  chance that Golota wouldn't fight Ferguson," said Merchant. Ferguson had lost 16 times against 26  wins before Golota shut him out Saturday in the HBO curtain raiser.

DI BELLA WANTS GRANT AND POLE

Lou Di Bella would not be wise to use Andrew Golota in any capacity again on HBO. But there  was the HBO Sports VP saying, "I'd like to match Grant with Golota. Or the winner of the Ike  Ibeabuchi-Chris Byrd fight."

IF HE FROZE AGAINST A LUMMOX?

Andrew Golota froze like a deer in the headlights of an approaching truck when he faced Lennox  Lewis five fights ago. He was "frightened" of Ferguson, and had to be coaxed. And when that didn't  work,  Andrew was threatened I'm told, and that's when he decided on taking the fight.

AGAINST THE GIANT?

So, what do think he's going to do against Grant? Soil his shorts for sure! Hey, Andrew is such a  head case that he had to be prodded to fight a journeyman in Ferguson. So, what's to say he  doesn't faint during the national anthem looking across the ring at the imposing Grant?

UNCLE SETH TAKE NOTE

Anyway you look at it, Andrew Golota spells trouble for HBO's six million dollar man Seth    Abraham. If he were on Drugs, his Oliver McCall like behavior might be understandable.

REID-BOUDUANI ANNOUNCED TODAY IN NYC

AMERICA PRESENTS continues to make headlines in the boxing biz as Mat Tinley and company    will today announce a fight pitting 1996 Gold Medalist David Reid against WBA 154 lb. guy  Laurent Bouduani of France on March 6, today in the Big Apple.

TOUGH LAST GO

Reid, 12-0, (7 KO's) didn't look stellar in his last fight against James Coker. But he should have  enough in the way of of hand speed and power to stop the Frenchman sooner than you think.

SAVARESE VS. MOUNT WHITAKER

The heavyweight division's only vegetarian, Lou Savarese will meet unbeaten Lance Whitaker on  the Bouduani-Reid card. The opening bout for the HBO show will be a test for the former U.S.  amateur champ Whitaker who has yet to step into water as deep as he will have to if he is to beat  the more experienced, and twice defeated Savarese.

HBO AXES TSYZU-GONZALEZ

Larry Merchant told me that, "we have no interest in the fight. They postponed it twice. And we  told AMERICA PRESENTS so." Somebody said they were trying to make Tsyzu, the interim  WBC 140 lb. champ and faded Mexican Icon Julio Cesar Chavez.

JOSE SAYS NO

The WBC declined on giving Chavez any title shot before #1 ranked Miguel Gonzalez. STAY    TUNED.
