FX FISTIC DEBUT TONIGHT

by Pedro Fernandez

The people at FX Cable are testing the waters tonight for a possible boxing series when they present world lightweight champion Shane Mosley, of Pomona. CA, and the 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist David Reid in separate fights. Mosley, 27-0, (25 KO's) is without question in the top five, of the fictional "Best pound for pound" list. His yearn for greatness should be a lesson for all of today's champions. For unlike a lot of other so-called champs, Shane wants to fight "the best available I want to be considered one day as a great fighter. And you don't get that fighting bums." Tonight, Shane faces late sub Wilfredo Rivera, 27-3, (17 KO's) who fills in for Ivan Robinson who pulled out with a cut optic a fortnight ago. While Ruiz isn't a bad fighter, the aforementioned Mosley has the ingredients of greatness. Prediction: Mosley KO 4. In the co-feature, Philadelphia's David Reid, 9-0, (6 KO's) the lone Gold Medalist on the 1996 Olympic team, will look to add a name to his professional resume in former two division champ Simon Brown. Formerly of Jamaica, and now a D.C. resident, Brown comes in well seasoned at 47-7, (35 KO's). That maybe the only advantage Brown has in this meeting, experience. I look for Simon to get drubbed and retire. The fight won't go the distance. Late round KO for Golden Boy! Also rounding out this AMERICA PRESENTS card, will be #2 WBC bantamweight Adan Vargas of Mexico. An NABF champ with a record of 27-1-1, (19 KO's) Vargas will be featured in a ten rounder underneath. And North Philly's Chucky T, 13-1-1, (8 KO's) the most popular fighter to come out of the City of Brotherly Love of late will also appear on the card that will be held on Philadelphia's Temple University Campus. First bout on FX airs at 8 PM ET.
