BAM Explodes Friday In Vegas

by Pedro Fernandez

Las Vegas' busiest promoter Rick Burton Sr. of BAM Promotions has a pretty good card on tap this evening at the ORLEANS Hotel in Sin City.

In the main event tonight, BAM features Sin City's very own James Crayton, 26-8, 15 KO's, in a ten round duo with Mexican tough guy "The Hammer" Margarito Navarro.

Navarro, the owner of an undistinguished record is known throughout the boxing biz as "The Hammer." Tonight he better bring that weapon to the ring with him as Crayton, a winner of five straight is on an roll.

If you've seen Crayton before, you will truly be surprised with the progress he's made as a professional under the tutelage of his trainer, the former light heavyweight champion Eddie Mustapha.

Although he is on that five fight streak, one of those victories ended in tragedy when Johnny Montantes died after hitting his head on the canvas after being knocked down by Crayton.

Mustapha appearing on Ring Talk this past Sunday had this to say about how his rapidly rising lightweight has handled the death of Montantes "I had to get it across to him that he did nothing wrong.

"That everyone of us knows that when we make that march to the ring, we might not be coming back. It's unfortunate, but accidents happen. In the last year Crayton has grown both as a fighter and man."

The "Fistic Felines" are back at the ORLEANS tonight with two California cuties slug it out in a four round bout at 140 lbs. Paula Faye of East L.A. will be looking for her second win against debuting Christina Orlich of San Diego.

The Nigerian contingent will be represented well tonight as unbeaten Jude Agu will be looking to advance to 4-1, when he draws Las Vegan Reggie Roberts in a four round scrap.

One should keep an eye on Ivan Cazares of Los Angeles who faces hometown boy Angle Mata. Both men had stellar amateur careers and as a professional, "Ivan The Terrible" stands unbeaten at 8-0!

Raising the curtain will be junior middleweights Vincent Moses and Dexter Williams. While Moses is a Nigerian national, both men now reside in Las Vegas.

And closing the drapes on tonight's card will be an entertaining battle between two Las Vegans in Juan Martinez and Sergio Sanchez. Both guys have "pop" in their punch, so I wouldn't anticipate this one going the route.

The next BAM card in the Mardi Gras room at the ORLEANS Hotel will be on May 15.
