Saoul Mamby

Born: June 4, 1947 Bronx, NY
Height: 5-9 1/2

Professional Record: 45-32-6 (19 kayoes)
Putative Manager: Carl King

Saoul Mamby was a slick defensive boxer with a concrete chin that presented a difficult style from Lightweight to Welterweight for well over two decades. Mamby a black Jew, turned pro after a tour of duty in Vietnam. Early in his career he often fought quality fighters in their hometowns. That experience served him well, although he lost a disputed decision to Saensak Muangsurin in 1976. He captured the WBA Jr. Welterweight title from obscure South Korea Sang-Hyun Kim in 1979. Throughout his championship reign, Mamby was managed and promoted by the infamous duo of Don and Carl King. Mamby was usually ripped off by the King's and was forced to defend his title on the road or on King promoted undercards.

Mamby lost his title to Leroy Haley in 1982 and failed in two subsequent attempts at regaining it. Mamby has continued to fight intermittently since then and even had fight in 1999 at age 52.
