Commission Gives Go Ahead for Girl vs Boy Fight: Katherine Dunn |
On Friday, September 10, 1999, after weeks of deliberation, the Washington State Department of Licensing, announced its decision to allow Margaret MacGregor, a 130 pound female professional boxer with a 3-0 record from Bremerton, WA. to fight Hector Morales of Vancouver, B.C. who will be making his pro debut in their scheduled bout on October 9 in the Mercer Arena in Seattle. A press release from the Department of Licensing warned that the bout could still be cancelled if either of the fighters fail to meet licensing requirements with their physical exam, communicable disease tests or drug screening. According to the D.O.L. press release, "The application was reviewed according to the state professional Athletics Act, which does not include gender as a fight-matching factor." Promoter Tom O'Malley and his Director of Bouts, Bob Jarvis have scheduled a press conference for 1 p.m. today in Seattle. More as it happens. Katherine Dunn |
