Portland Club Show Features Popular Tough Guy

Katherine Dunn

Saturday, July 29
at the Jackson Armory,
6255 NE Cornfoot Road, Portland, OR

First bout scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
Tickets: Ringside $30, General Admission $15

The last time former tough-guy John Egge fought in Portland, his main event was fought in two minute rounds, apparently to accommodate his age, 39 years, and his decade out of the ring. This time out the bout is scheduled for actual grown-up three-minute rounds. The amiable Egge has a lot of ticket-buying friends and relations, which makes him valuable to the small club promoter, Oregon Trails, Inc.

Two days before fight night the card was looking like this:

Heavyweights, 6 rounds--former tough guy John Egge (4-1) of Portland vs Rich Maciel, (2-3) of Denver.

151 lbs, 8 rounds--Chris Huntwork of Portland vs Ron Pasek of Canada

175 lbs, 8 rounds--Kip Triplett of Eugene, OR vs Jeff McCracken of Las Vegas

140 lbs, 6 rounds, Mike Lucero of West Linn, OR vs Red Sukrow (8-3) of Edmonton, Canada

135 lbs, 4 rounds--Jesus Santiago (1-0) of Seattle vs Saul Hernandez (0-1-1) of Gresham, OR

135 lbs, 4 rounds--Hamad Zaki (debut) of Portland vs Cesar Garcia Lopez of Salem.

150 lbs, 6 rounds--Rob Mansfield of Bremerton, WA  vs Amaury Bandera of Forest Grove, OR

Standby Bout--160 lbs, 4 rounds--Gonzo Dominguez of Hood River, OR vs Buddy Payne (0-1) of Bend, OR
