Vitali Klitschko: Since today you may call him "Dr. Klitschko"

Kiev/Hamburg - February 29, 2000 - WBO heavyweight world champion Vitali Klitschko took his doctor's degree today at the university of Kiev.

After giving a lecture for an hour in front of the 17 members of the committee Vitali Klitschko passed his doctoral thesis about "talent and sponsorship in sports" with distinction.

Over a period of three years Vitali Klitschko has done series of tests with 91 competitive athletes and slipped all result into his extensive doctoral script.

That makes Vitali Klitschko the first professional boxer ever to carry a doctor title - honorary titles not included.

The honor was attended by Alexander Omelschenko, the mayor of Kiev. For him Vitali's award was an "honor for the city of Kiev and for the whole region!"

Vitali Klitschko will celebrate his academic success today with his family.

The next athletic success will hopefully follow on April 1st in Berlin. At Estrel Convention Center Vitali Klitschko - now for the first time as "Dr. Klitschko" - will be challenged by the hard hitting Canadian Donovan "Razor" Ruddock in the third defense of the Ukrainian's heavyweight world title.

"I'm very happy that I was able to conclude my studies successfully with this title", the satisfied big Klitschko brother explained. "The doctor degree means as much to me as my winning of the world title against Herbie Hide. I'm very proud and I would like to thank my family who made things possible. Unfortunately we have little time to celebrate because tomorrow I will resume training in Hamburg. I know Razor Ruddock is a tough guy on my way to a big fight against Mike Tyson or Lennox Lewis!"
