Juan Carlos Gomez: 39o Fever
Cruiserweight Champion pulls out of title defense
Remainder of the card will go as scheduled

(Hamburg, 20 February 1999) World Cruiserweight Champion Juan Carlos Gomez pulled out of his title defense against Argentinian Marcelo Dominguez this morning, when Dr. Bodo Eckmann, his doctor and the president of the German boxing organization BDB, diagnosed an influencial infection.

Gomez was already showing symptoms yesterday like cough and slightly high temperature. The situation became more serious, when Gomez had to call the emergency doctor tonight, who measured more than 39o fever.

When Dr. Eckmann took Gomez' temperatur again this morning, he still found 38.5o and decided: "It's impossible that Gomez is fighting today!"

"It would have been extremely dangerous if Gomez fought today", promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl commented. "We will make up for this fight later this year."

The remainder of the fight card will go as scheduled. In the main event European heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko will defend his title against the French champion Ismael Youla.

On the undercard German light heavyweight champion Thomas Ulrich will fight Ali Saidi and Istvan Kovacs will take on Argentinian Mario Nestor Cabello in a fight between two undefeated featherweights.
