Castillo was a battler who improved with age and experience; His most famous bouts are the contests against Ruben Olivares; The men fought three times for a total of 44 rounds

He won the WBC Bantamweight Championship of the World, the WBA Bantamweight Championship of the World and the Bantamweight Championship of Mexico during his career

"Chucho" defeated such men as Ruben Olivares, Rafael Herrera, Jesus Pimentel, Jose Medel, Bernardo Caraballo, Waldemiro Pinto, Evan Armstrong, Yoshio Nakane, Guillermo Tellez, Edmundo Esparza, Jesus "Chucho" Hernandez and Rafael Antonio Ortega
